Amicus (David Barnett) Anastasia

I read this book a few months ago and rated it it a little higher than you did! Maybe I was too generous.

On reflection, I see that the Parisian interlude was a bit of a digression included to add a little something extra.

I failed utterly to spot that "cargo cult" anachronism. Well done. It must be well nigh impossible to avoid at least one such gaffe.

After reading this, I went on to read "Moondrop to Gascony" by Anne Marie Walters, whose wartime career had a happier ending than the heroine of Mawer's novel - as you no doubt know.

Like you, I have become fascinated by the bravery of so many women who ran such risks and in many cases suffered so tragically in the service of SOE.

MisterLiberry Head Thanks for listing this! I was unaware of the U.S. title, but now will ferret it out. Also applaud your Leo Marks paraphrase: "it’s yours and yours and yours" breaks my heart every time I read the code poem.

David, I'm going to add that title to my Amazon basket. I recently bought a host of Resistance-themed books, including Sebastian Faulks' novel Charlotte Gray.

DR, it just so happens that I watched Carve Her Name with Pride on BBC iPlayer recently. It's still there if you can get it where you are.
