Manny’s review of Romeo and Juliet > Likes and Comments

Well put. As I'm fond of pointing out, Romeo and Juliet may be ridiculous, but goddamn is it beautiful.
By making it actually about the pointlessness of feuding and violence and being a better poet than everybody else, ever, I think Manny.
With Henry V, Shakespeare even turns me into a raving Jingoistic loony and I'm not even English...Shakespeare could do anything with words - make a woman fall in love with a hunchback psycho who murdered her father, for instance.
Manny, I can't believe that this review is so unliked.
Can I just privately confess that I was inspired to write my review, when I saw your like or comment about Madeline's review. And by an element of curiosity as to whether anyone else could get 900 likes for a review, like GR legend Madeline.
I'm flattered, Ian! But 900 votes, sadly, hardly qualifies me for GR Legend status. Have you seen the Fifty Shades of Grey review that currently has over 9,000 votes?
Thanks, Madeline. I just read it and it's now almost got to 10,000 votes.
What I should have said was that your review had an intelligence and sense of humour and creativity that should be recognised for its legendary status amongst discerning GRer's like Manny and me. Presumably, it broke out from just your immediate circle of friends. It was more than a description or a review or a rant. And it made me think, I wish I'd written that. Then it made me think, I've got to write one of those, although the market appeal of mine is limited to Bruce Springsteen fans who also like Shakespeare. There must be about 50 of us.
There you go. It's one absurd piece of contrivance on top of another. You can see why even Shakespeare felt he needed to write a disrespectful parody of it.
I didn't think it was that good. I know it's supposed to be a parody, but I really don't think it worked. Sorry, Shakespeare.
The Zac Efron line makes me laugh!
In any case, well put, and I'm in total agreement: plot is ludicrous in so many ways, but damn it if the whole thing isn't 5-star-worthy gorgeous poetry.
Perhaps the best analysis of Romeo and Juliette I have ever read. A beautiful story, that as you put it, just didn't age well.

On one faithful day, as I was browsing through the internet,I came across allot of testimonies about this particular spell caster. Some people testified that he brought their Ex lover back, some testified that he restores womb, cure cancer, high blood pressure and other sickness, some testified that he can cast a spell to stop divorce and so on. i also come across one particular testimony,it was about a woman called laura smith ,she testified about how he brought back her Ex lover in less than 2 days, and at the end of her testimony she dropped Dr jaja's e-mail address. After reading all these,I decided to give it a try. I contacted him via email and explained my problem to him. In just 2days, my husband came back to me. We solved our issues, and we are even happier than before... Dr jaja, is really a gifted man and i will not stop publishing him because he is a wonderful man... If you have any problem and you are looking for a spell caster to solve all your problems for you. Contact him on this email: doctorjajahouse@gmail.com anytime for solution to that your problem. "
Mary Paul, that's an absolutely fascinating story. I suggest you ask Dr Jaja for magical assistance in improving your spelling and grammar. But please don't kill yourself if he's unable to help.
It's really too bad, because I've been looking for a reliable witch doctor to restore womb for, like, ever.
I know, a lot of them are real cowboys aren't they? They tell you they're done and your womb is in perfect working order again and then a week later you have quadruplets. There should be a proper licensing system.
I really didn't like this one that much. It's a common theme of umpteen Indian movies I have seen since childhood.
The fact that Shakespeare originally thought of it is a very weak argument, IMO.

I thought it was excellent, though heavily cut. Very dark and moody, with lots of long, lingering silent shots (heavily cut, as I say, but including most of the lines you expect). It really emphasised the madness.

Looking around, I find this page, which suggests it'll be out here early in the New Year. Too long to wait :(
Well, if you will live in an obscure little country no one's every heard of... ;)
It's not even worth your popping back to the UK, as it wasn't shown for long.
I'm afraid you'll have to be patient, but I think it's worth waiting for (unless you want a straight, verbatim rendition).

Don't forget the friar's make-you-dead-then-make-you-not-dead-later potion he had lying around.
