Mike Augh! That is douchey! Why the fuck would anyone write that?

message 2: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Lesley is the biggest issue I have with these books. She has such potential, but is used so badly. Book 2 is worse in its way. Haven't gone on to Book 3, but will probably pick it up when it's cheaper because I want to know how she progresses. I'm far more interested in Lesley's story than Peter's.

Seriously? I honestly don't think I could think of a worse way to use her. Well, obvious aside. That's really disappointing to hear :/

Shiori I keep waiting for a book to change my mind about UF/F/SF written by men. I guess I'll add this one to the list of LOL NOs.

Andrea I cover the ongoing issues in my review http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/... of Book 2. I don't know what's happened to her in Book 3 (since I avoid spoilers for things I'm probably going to read), but I'm holding out hope that the sheer stubborn determination she displays in Book 2 will win out.

Nicki Couldnt agree more.

Martina Awesome review. I very nearly didn't finish the damn thing. It's almost as if I am more provoked by these newer fantasy novels that try to come off as progressive and savvy than the old school ones where women are prizes for the male hero and that's that.

message 8: by Siobhán (new)

Siobhán Finally found a review that agrees with what I thought! Wayyyy too many references to cleavage that completely alienated me! Great review!

message 9: by Meep (new)

Meep Great review, exactly my take on it all. Was left really mad about Lesley.

message 10: by Gemma (new)

Gemma This review sums up my thoughts exactly.

message 11: by Ellie (new)

Ellie I was surprised not to see more reviews like this one! I haven't ever picked up a fantasy book in which women were worse off.

message 12: by Rainey (new)

Rainey The quote about the plump round-faced woman is literally the point where I threw the book on the ground and said "nope." I didn't care to read further than that. And now, hearing what happens to Lesley, I'm so glad that I didn't!
