Right?! I felt so gaslit, like I was imagining it, but then I read over the passages again and, no, they're REALLY bad. I am totally going to the bookstore when this comes out to check the final copies...

Kara I just got to the part where the cop calls Miss Sally a "drag queen " I am SO disappointed and angry, and I came looking to see if anyone would talk about the transphobia. I have a hard time with this, because I've been having a conversation with the author on fb the last couple of days. She goes to Pride events, is a Democrat, has gay friends, the whole bit. I don't know if she has trans friends, but this book has made me doubt it. I bet she'd deny transphobia in her book, but it's there. I'm really sad. And now that I think about it, you're right about the casual racism. Sigh.

Kara I do know that she's from East TN and lives in Atlanta. So she's from the South too, as am I, and I'm a lesbian. She knows the South, and there's no excuse for any of this.
