Oh! I hope you do! This is one of my favourite reads so far this year! If you do, I hope you love it too :)

Nicola This sounds really good Jane. Glad to see that you really enjoyed it ! 🥰

message 4: by Jane (new)

Jane Oh Nicola! This was a bit on the darker side for me, but would be light read for you!! I think you might like it -- it was very interesting!

message 5: by Betsy (new)

Betsy Ooh Libby just sent this to me :)

message 6: by Jane (new)

Jane Audio or read-read?

message 7: by Betsy (new)

Betsy Gah, stupid notifications--why am I just seeing this? Got the audio (and totally forgot about it until now)!

message 8: by Jane (new)

Jane Lol -- probably because I was finally properly investigating Bookish First and realized I'd already written some reviews that could be used to get points there. But I couldn't figure out how to get the right link for my review without editing and forgot to tick the "don't post to my feed" box thingy when I did that?

Oooh! I hope you enjoy!

message 9: by Betsy (new)

Betsy I've won two through them :) I just got enough points to pick one, but I wasn't a huge fan of this week's stuff. And I just realized EW added lots of the publishers to the download section that use Bookish First, like Tor and Celadon. Easy way to get points without having to beg for NG approvals! :D

I hope I can make it through before it goes back. If not, it's on Hoopla now, so I guess I could finish there.

message 10: by Jane (new)

Jane Hoopla's got the best system (no holds, longest borrowing times), but the player sort of sucks. It doesn't show the chapters for audio books, so you don't have a good feel of where you are. I like using chapters as end points for reading sessions, but it means I have to try to anticipate where they will end.

message 11: by Jane (new)

Jane Wait -- when you pick one, is it digital or print?

Yeah, I miss the chapter bookmarks in Hoopla but I tolerate because they're not as much hassle to get.

Usually print, I think? I haven't gotten a pick yet, just one of the two I've won. Some titles have an option for digital, but not many. This week had one book that thought that sentences didn't need subjects *and* verbs, so I got annoyed pretty quickly ;)

message 14: by Jane (new)

Jane Lol. Did it open with a bar scene?

message 15: by Betsy (new)

Betsy Yup that's exactly the one!! Wasn't sure if the picks were the same or regional...

message 16: by Jane (new)

Jane Lol! I cringed at two sentences in that one that could have been so easily rewritten to be more interesting sentences anyway. But I liked her attitude, so I sucked it up and said nice things ;)

message 17: by Betsy (new)

Betsy I just think that whole clipped sentences trend needs to go away. Used sparingly, it's okay, but a whole book like that? I'd go nuts.

message 18: by Jane (new)

Jane I hear you. The stupid thing is that it's often used in sentences that tell instead of show. Quick rewrites would solve 2-in-1.

message 19: by Betsy (new)

Betsy Yup, that person needs to fire their editor.

message 20: by Ujjawal (new)

Ujjawal Sureka Sounds like a fun book, nice review Jane!

message 21: by Jane (new)

Jane I think that may be why I'm enjoying listening so much. I am blissfully ignorant of many more errors than I would see if reading.

message 22: by Jane (new)

Jane Ujjawal wrote: "Sounds like a fun book, nice review Jane!"

Thanks, Ujjawal! I really did like this one!

message 23: by Betsy (new)

Betsy Yeah, I know the English doesn't bother me as much when I listen to things, so I should listen more often. I'm thinking about biting on Audible next week. Want to see if they've rolled out everything they plan to for Prime Day first, though...

message 24: by Jane (new)

Jane The three months for $5 looks pretty good, but hold out to see if they offer the annual Gold deal (12 credits) for $99 (plus they might throw something else in, plus the usual 1 or 2 free months).

message 25: by Betsy (new)

Betsy Yeah, I might bite on the $99 deal if they run it. That's better than $120 plus the little Echo (the dot?).

message 26: by Jane (new)

Jane I think last year they bundled the $99 deal with one of the Alexa thingies (but I can't remember). I mean do you want a dot? It's only a deal if you're in the market for the device in the first place, right?

I'm not sure how many of these deals are still active, but you should check them out now to be prepared to know what to jump on next week ;)

message 27: by Betsy (new)

Betsy Ooh, that's helpful, thanks :)

I'm kinda meh about the dot. I think if I did want to get one of the Alexa thingies, I'd want one with a screen.

message 28: by Jane (new)

Jane Yeah, I'm kinda meh on the whole listening to me thing. Mturk made me awfully leery about that stuff :p

message 29: by Christine (new)

Christine Love this review, Jane!! I want to read this too!

Betsy Jane wrote: "Yeah, I'm kinda meh on the whole listening to me thing. Mturk made me awfully leery about that stuff :p"

The listening to me thing creeps me out if I think about it too much. But then I figure Amazon probably knows everything about me already anyways, haha. I'm not sure I'd listen to *it* either. I'd want a screen if it tried to give me any directions that had more than two steps!

Jane Christine wrote: "Love this review, Jane!! I want to read this too!"

Oh! I really think you'll love this one, Christine! It really zinged me where it counts ;)

Yeah, but then I figure that's what my tablet is for. And then I remember that my tablet and phone are listening to me all the time and I want to just bury my head in the sand ;)

message 33: by Betsy (new)

Betsy That's true, especially if the screen timer's turned off when you need the screen to stay on when you're not touching it. And the 24/7 surveillance makes me want to run away from anything with an internet connection!

message 34: by Holly (new)

Holly B Wonderful review Jane!
