Lyn ;)

Elaine I had the same experience with Myst, but I never got off that damned island, lol.

Lyn Me neither and I gave up on it, was cool though

Prophet I love this trilogy. My favourite SF in recent years. The second book presents a considerable shift in tone but is equally compelling with a few major WTF moments.

message 6: by Ken (new)

Ken I played the Myst game (the original one) as a kid. I also read the three novels based off of the game.

I advise not reading Authority in a dark room alone at night.

Darius Nice! I gave Annihilation a terrible review, but I think I might like it more now. Though the ending killed me back when I read it, I actually loved the rest of the book and found it chilling & surreal.

In retrospect the ending actually worked, though it was undoubtedly strange. I was in a different headspace when I read it and didn't appreciate weird, nihilistic fiction as much as I do now, largely thanks to Lovecraft & Alan Moore. Your review makes me want to re-read it and then work through the rest of the series

Yes, much different style, but I'm liking it

It does have a creepy factor, I'm about 40% in now

Thanks Darius, I'm going to read the whole trilogy in order

Jason X I laughed at the Racer X line. You have a great ability to draw out so many things about books I am not able to quite put together.

message 12: by Lyn (new)

Lyn Thanks Jason X ... are you from Area X?

David Schaafsma An example of the richness of yr reviewing: We’re speculative fiction fans, it’s in our DNA, we are looking for the Winona Ryder strange and unusual and we’re willing to say Beetlejuice three times and click our ruby slippers and shamble along the uninhabited shores of Myst for hours on end."

Lyn Ha! Thanks David
