Irene Sim Oh, Maria, I so feel you! John Green is a hit and miss for me (even "The Fault in Our Stars"). Of course I've seen the movie (didn't bother with the book) and the only thing I remember is the moment that the 16yo kid calls his mom and casually informs her that he took the car to go pick up a friend from 2000 Km away - but don't worry, I'll get it back Monday morning so you can go to work - and ALL his mom tells him - ALL SHE TELLS HIM- is "Ok, just be carefull and have fun with your friends" (or something along these lines). And I'm stunned, left speechless, thinking: In what parallel universe would a Greek kid call his mom and tell her this and the mom wouldn't freak out? I can't, for the life of me, understand these people, I really can't.....

Don't even bother with the book, I wanted to kill myself. It's even more absurd than the movie. I know things are less strict in America but come on! And it happened more ridiculously in the book. Q left his GRADUATION in the middle to go get her cause he had a deadline and she would leave. And he went to his mom and just told her "Hey I'll miss my GRADUATION to go find this random girl who might not even be there or want to be found" Like???? And she was like "Ok be careful" ????? We both know how it would have happened here, and it's funny even thinking about it!

jess ❈ I honestly tried to read all of John Green’s books but soon as I tried The Abundance Of Katherine’s I wanted to throw the books out my window. Recently donated all of my physical books to charity. Younger me enjoyed some of his books but I have come to realise they are all the same books. Their plot lines are so similar to me and soon as I realised that, I couldn’t see past it. I hope your next read is better for you!

You did good. I haven't had a long past with John Green but basically all of his books are surrounding one character. I like what he did with his new book and I will follow him in his new ones but the old ones... no. They're all the same thing. Paper Towns was a waste of my time. Thank you so much!

Same with me. I will read his future work because I truly enjoyed Turtles All the Way Back but his old books, no.

Mariam AMAZING REVIEW. Btw I never watch movies at home either, I either watch them at the cinema or I don’t watch them at all. I’m a TV show and book kind of girl as well. If I remember correctly, I didn’t like the book either. 😂

THANK YOUUUU!!! I used to watch lots and lots of movies but lately I let more time of my life for books. I'm sure you didn't like it, this book was just BAD! 😂

Hanaa Welcomed to the minority that thinks that John Green books aren’t “amazing” or “unlike anything you have read before”. It is so embarrassing, especially since it is mostly people my age that are in love with the “depth” of his book

I'm glad to join this little club! Honestly, I don't see the appeal. His writing is so pretentious and the characters he creates are all the same person. I just... don't get it. I liked Turtles All the Way Down, but I think his older books are all one book disguised as many.

message 38: by Sallie (new)

Sallie Manic Pixie Wet Dream on his part.

message 39: by Ferial (new)

Ferial Hameurlaine I agree with a lot of things but tbh Margot is only annoying because we see her through Quentin's eyes. The point of the book is to show that she's not all of the things Quentin thinks she is, she's just a regular girl. It's like a deconstruction of the manic pixie girl trope. but yeah, green has written better things i guess lol

Yes, I understand why she's annoying. But she still is, no matter the POV. Maybe if we saw the book from her POV, I would have liked her. But there wouldn't have been a point in this book if this happened.

It would have been interesting, to be honest! She's an interesting character, nonetheless. Interesting characters are not always likable. But you know, it'll never happen :/

Julianna B Do you REALLY have that much time on your hands that you can right a 50 page essay on a book

message 47: by Sallie (new)

Sallie Julianne, it is "write", not "right".

message 48: by Christina (new)

Christina This book was the biggest piece of trash - just out here promoting self centered behavior. Being self centered isnt "hot" or "cool" - it's gross, just like Margot and Q

message 49: by Chloe (new)

Chloe I honestly agree, this book was a DNF for me but after THREE years, yes... THREE YEARS of not finishing it I felt I needed to finish just to get the ending. Boy.. what a disappointment. I have not had an issue with any other book of John Green.. until this one. A book should not take you three whole years to finish...

message 50: by Robyn (new)

Robyn Completely agree. And am I the only one completely baffled by the fact that Margo was getting money from somewhere..? No doubt using her parents money or if it was savings she would probably go running back when she ran out of money. This book was just so BORING.
