Kristen I hated having to read it for school too. I definitely need to reread this when I'm not being forced to do so.

It completely changes your perspective. I'm rereading a few books I was forced to read...and it's like, "wow. These teachers knew what they were doing"

message 3: by Kim (new)

Kim M Excellent review! I love this book SO MUCH.

message 4: by J & J (new)

J & J The best crafted novel ever.

message 5: by J & J (new)

J & J If you haven't read the first few paragraphs again after finishing the novel, do it! ;)

message 6: by Audrey (new)

Audrey I did like reading it for school, but it was so much more as an adult.

Kyle Wells Atticus was one of my hero's growing up.

message 14: by Brittany's (new)

Brittany's Pages I loved it as an older school kid, but still didn't quite get the full point. Reread it and everything clicked about it.

Have you read The Secret Wisdom of the Earth? Similar to TKaMB, but more modern. The Secret Wisdom of the Earth

Totally agree, i want to give it a few years and reread again to see how my perspective changes

Never even heard of it, but it definitely looks interesting. Totally adding it to my tbr pile :)

message 16: by Eric (new)

Eric Plume I read this in high school, and my teacher at the time really focused in on it and had us analyze it. I did "get" it better than some, but I chalk that up to A: reading it at an older age than most, B: having a teacher who encouraged the class to dig into the meat of the story and C: having a mother who was from the South and was boots-on-the-ground for the Civil Rights movement.

One of my memories from the class discussion in high school (I'm putting this in a spoiler tag for the benefit of those who haven't read it);

(view spoiler)

message 17: by Jaline (new)

Jaline I was a young adult the first time I read this, but it is definitely on my list for a re-read. Terrific review, Miranda!

message 18: by Sarah Dorothea (new)

Sarah Dorothea Great review! It's still on my to-read list. 🤗

ohmygosh. I remember reading that "thing" you mentioned in the spoiler and noting that none of the other characters noticed it in the book...which made me second guess what I was reading.

I almost want to go for another reread...

Miranda Reads Ehhhh....it's fun to have something to listen to while cleaning or getting ready for the day or on the bus. My library has a digital section, so I can just download the books to my phone and listen wherever I want :)

message 37: by CuriousCompass (new)

CuriousCompass Here we didn't have to read it until high school, 10th grade; I read it in two days and then reread at a slower pace with the rest of the class 😂

Christine Marshall Great review, I am in complete agreement with all you said. I only wish when I first read it all those years ago, I would have understood even half of what I do now.
