Laura Leaney I agree! Even though there are exceptions to his formula of the heroic journey and his idea of the "monomyth," much of his work (revealing the similarities between cultures) is fascinating.

Nandakishore Varma Those exceptions are always highlighted by Campbell's critics, sometimes hinting that he had some sort of "agenda" in trying to fit everything into his framework. I do not agree. There are many exceptions to the Hero cycle, true; but the within the Hero cycle, the similarities are more prevalent.

rahul I just finished Campbell's Power of Myth. A great read. Opens perspectives and then one is always digging for and through metaphors in myth !
