Steve Wasling I am with you 100% on the withholding information thing. He flatly tells you the character has just learned something incredibly important and the next time we cut to them they DON'T SAY A THING! When they do eventually come out with it it's almost "oh, by the way..."

Karen I also agree with what you said about Alastair Reynolds stuff in general-- it's good, not great-- I've read at least one of his other books in that series so far, and although it was good enough as a diversion, it wasn't so great and captivating that I'm in a big hurry to read the rest of that series; like you said, if it happens to cross my path and I don't have anything else on my plate, fine, but in the meantime there are a million other books in my "to-read" pile that I'd rather get to first, no offense to Mr. Reynolds! :0
