message 6: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Ellis I absolutely loved this book! I am so happy to find that you enjoyed it, too. It was so different and horrific. A wonderful, chilling read.

message 7: by Tash (new)

Tash this book took me awhile to stay focused on halfway through, but I agree that the ending makes it all worth the read.

message 8: by DJL (new)

DJL Surprisingly enough, I really enjoyed this book, too, though I wasn't as brave as you to read it at night. I could only read it before the sun set and then put it down. It was only once I'd reached the climax that I was able to finish it at 10:00 pm. Glad to see you enjoyed this chilling story, too. :)

message 9: by Brenda (new)

Brenda A Dawn Kurtagich is so gifted at building atmosphere and still delivering a good plot. LOVE

message 10: by Annika Grace (new)

Annika Grace I have the same problem as you!!! When I am reading a scary book and have to get up when I am done reading it I almost start to cry. Literally, I am not even brave enough to get out of bed to turn my light off so I usually have to yell for my sister to come turn it off for me. After reading this review I kinda want to read this book just to see if I can brave the scariness, and also because it sounds really good.

Nikki "The Crazie Betty" V. Great review Em! I'll definitely be checking this one out.

message 12: by Laura (new)

Laura What I like about your reviews is that you pick up books that I might have over looked, such as this one, and made me interested in it. :)

Love the idea of you having to check the closet and turning on all the lights to go get a drink of water.

Haha, thank you :) I must admit that this wasn't on my radar until I went looking for a scary Halloween read - glad I found it!

Alienor ✘ French Frowner ✘ I'm scared I will regret it when I can't sleep anymore, but you convinced me *hides*

Taylor (taymwoods) I'm so so soooo glad you liked this one because I'm about to pick it up for Halloween and would've been so upset if it wasn't good :( OR at least have your blessing :)

message 17: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Awesome review Emily! I will definitely add this to my list.

message 18: by Holly (new)

Holly It was so good! At times I felt like I was going insane. Am I insane? Or it this book that creepy? Maybe a little insane but the book definitely is that creepy!

message 19: by Karen (new)

Karen If you liked this, which sounds like a nice, genuinely SCARY ghost story with all the traditional trappings (haunted house, creepy atmosphere, even creepier kids, etc.), you might like "I Remember You: A Ghost Story", by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir, who's becoming well-know as the "Queen of Icelandic Crime Fiction" (supposedly several of her books have already been optioned as movies, which I can believe, since she's such a good, suspenseful writer!). I just finished it myself the other night (just in time for Halloween, of course, an appropriate time of year to read something like that!), and I had actually put off finishing it at first, because it was such a creepy, suspenseful story that I didn't want to finish it late at night when my husband was away on a trip and I was alone! :D (except for my doggies, of course, who SURELY would've warned me of any menacing ghostly activity, just like the little dog did with his owner in the book! :D). Although this one was in the supernatural realm, apparently she also writes just straight-up crime/murder stories, which I might eventually check out as well (although I think she also has a couple of more creepy ghost stories that I'll probably hit first). Thanks for the tip on this book, too-- it looks like it would be a good scary ghost story to check out too, which I prefer to all the graphically-violent zombie stories (which aren't so much scary to me as they are just gratuitiously violent gross-outs-for-shock-value) and mopey emo-teen vamp "love" stories that we're being inundated with these days! :)

Roberta R. (Offbeat YA) Quote:
"I'll be honest: the book gets very strange before it eventually makes sense. But I promise that it does make sense in the end."

You are absolutely right! All the time I was thinking that so many things weren't making sense - that Silla should have...could have...*insert pretty much any kind of action here*. And then almost every piece fell into place...I say "almost", because for example, what was that gross snake scene at the beginning about? It isn't part of the..."thing"...(trying to avoid spoilers here) that eventually happens...

message 21: by Mary (new)

Mary 'Creepy,compelling and sad'?
Wonderfully stated!

message 22: by Taylor (new)

Taylor Gonci This book review hit it spot on ! I literally looked this book up just to make sure I wasn't the only one that felt insane or felt like I didn't really understand what was going to be honest at times I wanted to quit reading because I was so confused but everything and I mean everything fell into place ... everything I was questioning everything that had me going insane trying to figure out fell into place so perfectly ! So glad I didn't quit reading this book because it was a crazy ending that I loved !!
