Blind_guardian Glad I wasn't the only one who found this book a depressing, nihilistic slog. I'm amazed at all the 5-star reviews this tripe got, I guess there's no accounting for taste.

Frank Lin I think the most of this book is acceptable, but the ending is so trashy. Just ignore it because the Chinese contemporary fantasy novel is a little immature as a kind of new literature style.

Scott Heather I know. Fuck that stupid cunt. I hated that character so bad.

message 4: by Dominic (new)

Dominic I'm fine with the negative review but you should probably put a spoiler alert on it...

message 5: by Konain (new)

Konain 100% agree with you...but please take care of spoilers!

message 6: by Bob (new)

Bob Nolin Spoiler much?

message 7: by Jesse (new)

Jesse The people need to be warned

message 8: by Bob (new)

Bob Nolin That's my (and Konain's) point: they need to be warned by you that your review is largely a spoiler. I'm about to read the book, and I've already got a good idea how it reads, thanks to you. There's a function here on GR to mark a review a "spoiler." Please use it next time you decide to reveal the plot in a review. Thanks.

message 9: by Chou (new)

Chou The story may need an end like this although I think it's a puzzling end as well. I don't think a good ending can be better.

Jesse Padilla I agree with your review more than the glowing 5 stars everyone is giving it. It was damn near perfect through the first 2 books and I should have left it at that.

message 11: by Dmitry (new)

Dmitry Belyavsky I gave it 4*'s and meant it. But at the same time I do agree with you that ending seemed dark, rendering previous struggles of the human race kinda pointless. I just have to disagree on the final conclusion - that this wasn't a fitting end, IMHO that was the point, that all of those struggles are pointless in the grand scale of universe's lifespan -- and that's ok too.

message 12: by Namista (new)

Namista I hate this woman equally. Agree with you.

message 13: by Logan (new)

Logan Ha, I know! Why do we keep trusting the fate of billions to this woman? She's not the person for the job and pretty much made the 50 years Luo Ji stood off the Trisolarans into a waste.

message 14: by Liz (new)

Liz Lisa for the point is not a point but a point : )

message 15: by Dominic (new)

Dominic Thanks for adding the spoiler alert!

message 16: by James (new)

James Hayward (view spoiler)

message 17: by Wendy (new)

Wendy I have to mention that, as much as I hated the main character, she’s no less of a reflection of Liu’s future society. Plus, in Chinese her name, Cheng Xin, sounds similar to “On Purpose”. You can take that as either she did everything on purpose or the author made her like this on purpose.
