Mary Ann I agree - I wanted to like this book very much - but I agree that perhaps he took on too many characters to really develop them all well. I don't think I'll read the second book. hmm

Barbara I agree also that it isn't nearly as engrossing as his other works, and I was disappointed not to like this one more.

Laurie Gum I loved Pillars and World Without End but I have tried several times to read this book and can't get past a certain point, I lose interest. Does it get better the more you read it?

Barbara No, it really never gets as good as his other work. I had force myself to read to the end, and I was SO glad when it was over.
