Oh my gosh! Read this for the first time as an adult as well last year and loved it.
You should give The Heroes of Olympus series a try! I never read this series but Heroes is what comes next and it’s so much fun. I read for the first time 2 years ago and have reread it since then. I never felt like I was too old for it and there is a cast of diverse characters that makes it such a fun read.
rachael - its so great to hear how much you love that series!! i will definitely be looking into it! thanks for recommending!! :)
hannah - i think i will. i enjoyed this enough and i see so much love for it, so i feel like i would be missing out if i didnt continue the series!
This series is one of my favorite of all time. I started reading them when I was 12 and I still love them now that I’m 23. They do have a juvenile feel, but they can also be very deep. I love his writing style and his ability to balance humor with more serious themes.
I’m glad you enjoyed it!! I hope you finish the series and read Heroes of Olympus and Trials of Apollo as well!
awww. i love seeing how much other people love these books!! so happy they mean so much to you, mckenna!! i am definitely starting to feel the desire to continue the series and read his other books! :)
Middle grade is supposed to have juvenile feels because it’s written for 8-12yos. When I read middle grade I don’t expect to read about older teens and when I read YA I don’t expect to read about adults (even new adults). I’m a mood reader which is why I switch between genres and target audiences but love middle grade and YA for what they are and fully enjoy them with the mindset that it is not written specifically for me at my adulting age. I hope that if you enjoy Uncle Rick enough you do continue with his books and his new diverse “presents” label as they offer amazing stories :)
thats a fair point, ashley. i didnt mean for my comment to insinuate that the juvenile feel was a fault or negative. i was just trying to differentiate between my reading experience now, and what i would have felt had i read this when i was younger. of course its going to feel juvenile to me because im older than the intended age range for the book. i just need to keep that in mind if i continue with the series! :)
No worries you didn’t say it was too juvenile in general. Since I like mg books I’m used to switching my maturity expectations up and down! 😂 As you read on they do go through the growing phases which is great to see characters develop. I’m glad you enjoyed it and like you, I wish it would have been published when I was that age!!
i'm a hugeeee lover of mythology but never picked these up until this year. it has that timeless feel that no matter what age you are you will be able to connect to it (I mean, even if it's about greek mythology). I might be overanalyzing honestly 😂 but I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
ashley - i totally agree!! thanks again for your comments!! :)
kayla - hehehe. no way, girl! i think you are totally spot on! so happy to hear how much you love these books. its getting me excited to continue the series!
I've read this book and I liked it! It was funny and also a fun book to read. The adventure was amazing. It's not my favorite book, but I still liked the book. 😊
This is one of my favorite series, I'm so glad you gave it a chance even though at the end it wasn't for you :D I hope other Riordan's books will be more enjoyable to you
I guess I'm over-late, but yeah, a good review of one of my favourite books!
I'm sure you would've loved it when you were my age...
