Caroline How fascinating - thank you a wonderful review...

Jim Good Agreed that this is a special read and that given the time it was written required extraordinary courage. I highly recommend the two part biography of Du Bois written by David Lewis. The first book is titkled "W. E. B. Du Bois: Biography of a Race, 1868–1919" and the second is "W. E. B. Du Bois: The Fight for Equality and the American Century 1919-1963." They each won the Pulitzer for biography in the year they were released and give some perspective on Du Bois's mental, emotional and intellectual makeup within th context of his time.

Matthew Turner You keep making me click that "Want to Read" button. It's a real problem.

Trevor Thanks everyone - and I know Matthew, Jim's just got me to add two more books to my if only I had multiple life-times to read list. As Stevie Smith likes to say, not waving, drowning.

Joann Gardner GREAT review. Alas, the limitations placed on those who see and understand.
