Madeline Thank you! I finished reading this about two weeks ago, so I've spent a lot of time thinking about what I wanted to say.

message 3: by April (new)

April Cote I love your review. All other reviews I have read just go on and on about how she didn't give enough about her life or didn't make there sides split with laughter at every page, and that it just didn't seem that she showed her true self in the book. First, she doesn't owe any of us anything personal about her life. It's hers to keep as private as she fucking wants, and no one should ever complain about that. I'm glad to hear that she didn't tell a joke in every page. And to me, it sounds like she was giving her fans a piece of her true self, and we should be glad she did.
Also, that awesome cover; it's wicked. When I saw that it was called Yes Please, I silently squealed because it's what I always say to someone when a please is required. I absolutely can't wait to read this. It's been sitting on my book shelf for a couple weeks now. I am not putting it off, just saving it because I know I'll love it. Thank you for giving the review you did. Makes me that much more excited to read the words of one funny, kick ass, lovely woman.

It definitely wasn't what I was expecting. The book strikes an almost philosophical tone more often than not, and I think a lot of readers found this off-putting. I went into this book with a lot of preconceived ideas about what it would contain, and I was able to adjust my expectations and enjoy it - others might not have had the same experience, which I totally understand.

Great review! I've been on the fence about this book since it came out. Now I have to read it. Thanks!!!

message 7: by Victoria (new)

Victoria I actually want to read it more- I was expecting another Bossypants. That's not to diminish it but i didn't want to read the same book again. This makes me feel that it it's perfectly Amy- there's a reason so many people love her.

message 27: by Sara (new)

Sara I felt exactly the same way. It's like I wrote this review... Crazy. Great job!

message 28: by Madeline (new)

Madeline I'm glad to hear that so many people agree with me! Looking over the other reviews, it seems like a lot of people were disappointed with the book. Which I get - it's sort of disjointed, and it's not the laff riot everyone was expecting. But on the other hand...Poehler.

message 29: by Kassi (new)

Kassi Welch Fantastic review! I completely agree with what you... Especially the last bit, I was almost in tears because it was so touching. Everybody should strive to be more like Amy, the world would be a better place.

message 34: by Diane (new)

Diane Cook I really enjoyed this book and your review captured my same thoughts. Thanks for posting.

message 35: by Vicki (new)

Vicki I just finished it I thought it was MUCH better than Tina Fey's book. Loved your review

message 36: by Kellie (new)

Kellie Buelo Spot on review. I loved this book and felt the same; it isn't what I expected. And actually I was disappointed at first with the lack of laugh-out-loud moments until I got over my expectations and fell into the rhythm of the book. I love the direction she took with it.

message 37: by Madeline (new)

Madeline It's definitely an adjustment, especially after Bossy Pants, and like you, I had to read a few chapters before I started to understand what Poehler was trying to do with her book.

message 38: by Kay (new)

Kay Smith Loved this! I just read Mindy Kahling's book not too long ago, and was looking for another fun one: I'll consider Amy's for sure!

message 39: by Sarah (new)

Sarah FitzGerald This is an excellent review, thank you! A friend gave me this book and I flipped through it, reading in no particular order and enjoyed the parts I read very much. It is on my list of books to read and now I am bumping it up a few spots!

message 43: by Ali (new)

Ali Your review encompasses how i felt reading it his book.

message 44: by Cat (new)

Cat I agree with what almost everyone said about your review - spot on. I'm only about 2/3 of the way through, but there have been so many aha moments already. And whether or not you've already read it, I highly recommend the audio version. Amy reads it and has special guest readers scattered throughout. Amazing. I love her voice - literally and figuratively!

message 45: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Such an amazing review. I just bought the book and can't wait to read it!!!

Barbara Such an amazing review. I just bought the book and can't wait to read it!!!

message 48: by Madeline (new)

Madeline Try to go into it with as few pre-conceived ideas as possible - it took me a few chapters to get past the idea that this wasn't a comedy-for-the-sake-of-comedy book, but something deeper. Just sit back and let Poehler take the wheel.

message 49: by jean mac millan (new)

message 50: by Coryann (new)
