Dina Well, Melissa, your 5-star rating is pissing me off. I'd already decided to part ways with the Night Huntress books, but now you've got me thinking... Nothing good comes from my thinking, LOL.

Shawna You know you want back aboard the Bones train, Dina, LOL!

This was my least favorite in the series so far, but I still really enjoyed it.

Carrie Your ratings for Frost's books have aligned almost exactly with mine, so I'm excited about your 5* review. I'm in a "no buy zone" right now, but have this on my list to buy as soon as I can.

Dina,

Well you could read this one for the romance but you would get spoilers about Cat and Bones - but it shouldn't matter to you if you are giving up the other part of the series - maybe? I just like these third person romances better than the first person ones. I love Cat and Bones but I really wish we had Bones's point of view sometimes.

Destined for an Early Grave is easily my least favorite. This one was one of my favorites actually, it just needed a freaking epilogue!

Carrie,

Well, I hope you enjoy it too. My rating is actually a 4 1/2 star because I thought the book could have used an epilogue. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the entire story and romance.

I really should start using "no buy" zones but I have poor impulse control :)

Shawna Nice review, Melissa! I agree about it needing an epilogue. All the other books were like 5+ reads for me, so even though this was my least favorite, it's still an easy 4 1/2.

Mollie *scoutrmom* The library has this one ready for me to pick up Monday. Thanks for an insightful review, I enjoy that you were specific as to why you loved the story.

At this point, I'm really decided to forget the other part of the series. I enjoyed Cat and Bones' romance, got my HEA and I'm not really interested to see where they went from there. In my mind, their story is settled and finished, and I'm satisfied with the way book #2 ended.

I'm not interested in reading Spades' book either, because I've heard several readers complaining about his heroine (Denise?) and I've already had enough of Cat's bitchiness. Now, Mencheres' book seems interesting, especially because his heroine seems to be very likable. I can go straight to his book, right? I don't mind getting spoilers about the other books, I just want to know if I'll be lost skipping them.

I've never left the Bones train, but my wagon is parked at station #2, LOL.

MelissaB Dina,

I think you will be okay as long as you don't mind the Bones and Cat spoilers. I can send you some info about Mencheres that would be helpful too, just let me know if you want me to. But I think you would be fine! Yes Kira was a great heroine that I actually liked.

message 12: by Dina (new)

Dina Melissa, I really don't mind the Bones and Cat spoilers and you can PM me the info about Mencheres, so I'll be ready to read his book. Thanks a lot! :)

Rane Great Review Melissa, I don't mind FPOV, but really have enjoyed the TPOV as were able to get everyone's POV, something I wouldn't have minded more with Bones.
While I loved FDOC, am still in no rush to read EKOD, am hoping for a book for Vald and Ian!

message 14: by Norma (new)

Norma Great review! I'm with Dina tho. I didn't like the last Cat and Bones book. So I didn't read the first Night Huntress World book. I wasn't interested in Spade or what's her name. But this one is getting such good buzz. Maybe I'll add it to my TBR.

message 15: by Marisol (new)

Marisol I liked this book more than I thought I would. Not a Mencheres fan at first but now I am. I was hesitant since I didn't like Spade's book but I am glad to have read it.

message 16: by MelissaB (new)

MelissaB Glad you enjoyed it Marisol! I am excited to read This Side of the Grave soon.

Vicky I loved the transition scenes with Kira as a new vampire. So fascinating.

Agreed that this book needed an epilogue. I thought the ending was kind of sudden.

Mencheres and Kira are my favorite couple and my favorite characters. I liked Cat and Bones, but they didn't really resonate with me personally. I found the side characters more interesting. Not that I disliked Cat and Bones, either. I just have no real emotional attachment to them and sometimes found Cat overly dramatic. It was wonderful to read a couple that was mature, dignified, respectful, and loving.

ETA: I prefer third person narration, too. First person is often too limiting, and if you hate the character, it's a lost cause.

Wow it’s been almost 9 years since I read this book, I think I need a reread! I also need to get to the Vlad books, I was waiting for all of them to be out then just never got to them.

message 19: by Vicky (new)

Vicky I've finished the Night Prince series. I thought it had a satisfying ending. The romance is not my cup of tea. Vlad is a bit too alpha for my taste. The romance feels more obsessive and possessive than loving. But Vlad remains as ruthless as portrayed, and his woman has a temper to match his.

Rereading after nine years would probably feel almost new.
