Kelly (and the Book Boar) Noooooooooo : (

message 2: by Chris (new)

Chris Wow. Funny how we agree so well on so many things but then disagree on others.

message 3: by Stepheny (new)

Stepheny I think it's me, guys. I do not do science talk. I love sci-fi as long as I can understand it. If there's too much science talk I get lost, then frustrated that I don't understand it and then pissed. Lol The explanations were so in depth that I was in over my head. Cool concept but just not for me.

message 4: by Stepheny (new)

Stepheny Ps Kelly did you see my update for Porn?? Hahahahah thought you'd love it. Lmao!

message 5: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Sorry you had to suffer through it, but I appreciate you saving me from it :)

message 6: by Stepheny (new)

Stepheny You may like it, Lisa. It just depends on if you have a science brain or not. I do not. Never have. Huge disappointment for me personally but a lot of people love this book.

message 7: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Hmmm... True we often split on our opinions, but I think this time I better trust your reaction! I would never say that I have a science brain (or math or physics...). It's strictly a lit brain and good for almost nothing else!

message 8: by Stepheny (new)

Stepheny Your brain is good for lots of stuff, Lisa! :D

message 9: by Ɗẳɳ 2.☊ (new)

Ɗẳɳ 2.☊ So, I'll speculate that it was all that 3.6 pirate-ninjas nonsense that was the last straw?

Personally I had no problem with all the science talk (but then I do have a degree in science). What got me, was all the humor eventually wore thin.

No, I didn't mind the pirate-ninjas. It was a corny joke, but isolation makes people weird. THAT I can handle. It was the endless drone of what he had to do to survive- the science part of it. I literally zoned out because my brain refuses to understand it. LOL

Ɗẳɳ 2.☊ Yeah I can understand that. Sorry you didn't enjoy it, but hopefully the movie will redeem it.

message 12: by Stepheny (new)

Stepheny They're making it into a movie? LOL I don't think I'll be watching. haha

message 13: by Ɗẳɳ 2.☊ (last edited Mar 23, 2015 08:26AM) (new)

Ɗẳɳ 2.☊ Matty Damon will draw you back in :P

Edit: It really has quite an all-star cast.

message 14: by Stepheny (new)

Stepheny Dan 2.0 wrote: "Matty Damon will draw you back in :P"

Ah fuck. Nope. LOL I'm not a Matt Damon fan. But I can totally see him being the boring botanist! LOL

message 15: by Ɗẳɳ 2.☊ (new)

Ɗẳɳ 2.☊ Looks like it's already wrapped, it'll probably be out next summer I'd guess. I'm hopeful that it'll be one of those rare cases where the movie surpasses the book.

message 16: by Chris (new)

Chris Damn, for a minute I had this confused with your review of PORN.

I was all set to watch the movie.

Stepheny Dan 2.0 wrote: "Looks like it's already wrapped, it'll probably be out next summer I'd guess. I'm hopeful that it'll be one of those rare cases where the movie surpasses the book."

I don't think it could get much worse! :P lol

*spews coffee*

Thanks for that, Chris! hahahaha!

message 19: by Becky (new)

Becky I have a brain that wishes it was a science brain. I have a brain that is interested in the science, but often doesn't really GET the science. So a lot of the stuff you're talking about went right over my head, but I still loved this book.

It just worked for me. Sorry it didn't work for you, Steph. :(

message 20: by Becky (new)

Becky Your review made me laugh though... so you get a like from me! :D

message 21: by Stepheny (new)

Stepheny Becky- I'm the same way. I want to like it, it just has to be dumbed down for me! LOL It's ok though- I can't like every book I read! I'm glad my review got a laugh out of you!! :D

message 22: by Aric (new)

Aric Cushing You made me laugh as well. But are you saying there is no Martian in the book?

message 23: by Aric (new)

Aric Cushing that would suck

message 24: by Stepheny (new)

Stepheny Aric wrote: "You made me laugh as well. But are you saying there is no Martian in the book?"

There is no martian in the book. AND it did suck. LOL

message 25: by Chris (new)

Chris "Just boring tales of growing potatoes and drinking urine while listening to Disco music."

I mean, can you see why I got the books mixed up?

Kelly (and the Book Boar) Stepheny wrote: "Ah fuck. Nope. LOL I'm not a Matt Damon fan. But I can totally see him being the boring botanist! LOL"

Okay I loooooved this book, but I love your review too (and I agree 100% on the suckitude that is Matt Damon).

message 27: by Stepheny (new)

Stepheny @Chris- absolutely! hahahaha!

@Kelly- I'm glad that you love my review. And that we agree that Matt Damon is the lamest.

Bill LOL...I can't wait to get home. I'm going to shout "Gone Girl" and see if I fart rainbows!

Great review :)

Bwhaha! Thanks, Bill! Let me know if you do! Try to capture the moment if you could! ;)

message 32: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Fab review - made me laugh although appreciate the suffering in getting through a book everyone else loves and you don't ;) Happens to me a lot! I didn't fancy this one at all - I find space stuff really bleak like it's the end of the world or something - I think it's the darkness I hate lol.

message 33: by Ɗẳɳ 2.☊ (new)

Ɗẳɳ 2.☊ You might check out The Right Stuff. It's quite a captivating look into the early days of the space race. Much more adventurous than bleak. Pretty enjoyable, as long as Wolfe's style doesn't grate on your nerves, with all the exclamations and whatnot!!!

message 34: by Stepheny (new)

Stepheny Thanks, Lisa! GLad I am not alone! :D

Thanks for the heads up, Dan 2.0! I will look into that!

message 35: by TL (new)

TL Stepheny wrote: "TL wrote: "Sorry this didn't work out for you * hugs *"

Indeed:)

message 36: by Dustin (new)

Dustin ..I wanted desperately to fit in with the Goodreads community and love the shit out of this book and start farting rainbows every time I saw the title.

Hahahahaa!!!! OMG, you crack me up!!!

On a serious note, I'm so sorry this didn't work at all for you, Steph. And you're right, it takes a LOT for you to hate a book so much that you honestly had to give it 1 star. As always though, your reviews amaze me and your truthful opinions are very much appreciated.

message 37: by Stepheny (new)

Stepheny Lol I'm glad I could give you a laugh buddy!

message 38: by Dustin (new)

Dustin You always do!:)

message 39: by Kris (new)

Kris I also just gave this book one star and was curious as to others who gave the same rating. You are not alone.

message 40: by Stepheny (new)

Stepheny Thanks, Kris! It's honestly just not for me I think! Lol

message 41: by Kris (new)

Kris I've never been into Math and that's why it's not for me; my husband read it too and since he has a Master's in Engineering, thought it was good!! LOL!! That's why there are so many different books for so many different people!!

message 42: by Stepheny (new)

Stepheny I completely agree!!

message 43: by Crystal (new)

Crystal Helcel I with you on the one star rating, thus far- p155.

message 44: by Stepheny (new)

Stepheny @Crystal-Ohhhh boy! Lol I wish you the best, my friend!! ;)

message 45: by Dustin (new)

Dustin I hope it gets better for you, Crystal.

message 46: by John (new)

John If you're up for another Mars adventure novel, you may want to try Red Hope. It doesn't have any calculations.

message 47: by Stepheny (new)

Stepheny Thanks for the recommendation, John! I do enjoy science fiction-just when it's more fiction than science lol

message 48: by Angie (new)

Angie Edwards I was so glad to read your review! I felt exactly the same about that book. I'm glad to not be the only one giving it one star. I actually was kind of hoping that poor Mark would die so the book could be over sooner. And I usually love sci-fi...

message 49: by Kris (new)

Kris LOL Angie!! I recently attended my book club meeting on this book (only reason I finished it in the first place) and everyone looked at me like I was the Martian! Everyone just LOVED it, can't wait for the movie to come out, blah blah, gush gush... I don't get it!!

message 50: by Ɗẳɳ 2.☊ (new)

Ɗẳɳ 2.☊ I'd like to just mention one thing here, all you guys who "didn't get it" obviously read it wrong!

I kid, I kid, please don't troll me, or do...hahaha :P
