Progress: 1 of 10 questions

Florida played a vital role in the Civil War. With huge herds of free range cattle and ample supplies of fresh fruits, vegetables and fish, it became the food locker of the Confederacy. Its vast coastline also provided the salt needed for food preservation. Throughout the conflict the state's daring blockade runners defied the Union blockade to bring armaments, ammunition and other vitally needed supplies to the army and civilians of the South.
