Goodreads asked Heather Cabot:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Heather Cabot The book was inspired by my work on a PBS documentary about the dearth of women in tech in the early Nineties called "Minerva’s Machine" and then more than two decades later, covering the dawn of mobile Internet as a digital lifestyle correspondent for Yahoo! I had been aware of the gender gap in tech from my earlier job working on the film and was struck that the issue had only worsened even while women had become prime consumers of social media and e-commerce. At the same time, I began to meet a community of trailblazing women starting their own tech companies and also investors - brave, compelling characters who seemed to be part of a subculture the rest of the world hadn’t yet heard about.
