Was it hard making the transition from technical writing as a chemist to novel writing for Historical Lit?
Actually I was a bench chemist, running instruments to determine levels of various metabolites [amino acids, etc] in people's blood & urine. So most of the writing I did was to sign my initials on the lab reports. On occasion I wrote down a disorder diagnosis if the results were abnormal.
So in a way, the transition was even harder. But I always was a voracious reader of fiction so I recognized good writing when I saw it. I knew my writing would never win a Nobel Prize in literature, but I tried to write the book I wanted to read.
