Goodreads asked Machy Avelli:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Machy Avelli The idea for my most recent book, The Bastard Manager, was an idea that I had been toying with for years. I had read many career self-help books and thought they were all too fluffy and entirely missing the mark in describing how one really climbs the corporate ladder. Finally, when I got laid off from my engineering job last year, due in part to one of the Five Subversions mentioned in the book, I suddenly exploded with writing and completing the story.

In general, I saw some good advice for developing ideas for books. Set at least a day or two per month and brainstorm on opening sentences, book titles, character development, issues in society that grind your gears, etc. Check out James Scott Bell's awesome book on called "Plot & Structure" for more on idea generation. My next book coming out is going to be a fictional book that borders on a thriller ride due to an incident that happened to me at a restaurant recently. Stay tuned on GoodReads and on Twitter. Release date is Fall 2017.
