A Goodreads user asked:

Is this a lot like The Boy in Striped Pyjamas? The titles are really similar; frankly, I'm surprised John Boyle hasn't taken some legal action against it since the books deal with the same era and its issues. Just curious.

Helen Maltby Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is pure fantasy. There is very little historical basis for it and in fact damages people’s understanding of the Holocaust. Holocaust education charities advise that it should be avoided at all costs and research has shown how damaging it is when it comes to students’ perceptions of what happened. Girl in the Blue Coat is very well researched and reveals some of the horrors of what went on in occupied territories such as the Netherlands.
Rebekah They are both set in the war, but the story lines are almost completely different. Girl in the blue coat is set in a city. she agrees to try and save a jewish girl who has not been seen for about a week. The boy in the striped pyjamas is about a boy who, again the wishes of his family, who don't know or realise until the end, go to see a concentration camp where jewish and the like are held. He befriends a boy there similar to his age. The only things that are alike are the title (boy in pyjamas, girl in blue coat) and the era that they are set in.
Sorry that was a bit long winded but i wanted to properly explain my line of thinking! ;-)
