Leigh Anne I'd say it's really sci-fi. You don't have to really understand the physics as they are explained, just willing to accept the premise. However, the plot leads to many philosophical questions about life, choice, love, and acceptance.
I guess it just depends on how you approach it. I love it for both reasons.
Jeffrey I agree with Leigh Anne. She gave about the best answer to your question that I can think of. I think good sci-fi is usually partly philosophical.
