Goodreads asked Kat Hawthorne:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Kat Hawthorne The single best thing about being a writer is the ability to space out when your elderly neighbour starts telling you something uninteresting, and play it off like you were working---your characters were talking to you, or a wonderful plot twist just presented itself. You can get away with talking to yourself in public, and holing up for hours (days, even) with nary a sideways glance.
Honestly, dogs will walk themselves; children will find food if they get hungry enough. The world around carries on even when a writer's world does not.
