asked:
I just picked this up not realizing it was part of a series. Is it readable as a stand-alone or should I spring for the preceding novels first?

I think this is the first Balogh book I read. That was a good decision on my part, but I didn't make it consciously. That said, after I read this book, I went back and read the previous entries in the Bedwyn Saga, which made me love this book (and the Bedwyns) all the more. One of my favorite things about Balogh is that you can pick up pretty much anywhere in whichever of her series you choose and, while you'll miss a lot of references to previous books, you won't feel totally lost. The central romance will sweep you away every single time. That also means you'll get extra enjoyment out of rereading the books in their intended order!

I read out of order all the time, but this is the one series where I feel that reading in order will enhance the pleasure the reading that much.
Having said that, I don't think you need to read in order to enjoy it. It's just a matter of degrees in my opinion.

i know this is an older book... but i just finished the Bedwyn/Slightly series. I recommend starting at the beginning with .5 and .6.... 'one night for love' and 'a summer to remember'. After those 8 books... the Survivor series.

Absolutely readable.. My favourite of all Baloghs books. Loved the characterisation and have read all her series. I love how all the previous characters pop up in other stories almosot like your acquaintances.
