Goodreads asked Alastair Henry:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Alastair Henry For me, I can only write when I feel I have something to say, but when I do, I like to immerse myself in the experience. I forget about writing as an intellectual activity - thinking about structure, appropriate adjectives etc, -that can come later as you rewrite, tweak and tune. Allow yourself to get into the "Zone' and let your imagination and thoughts flow to your fingers and just write, write, write. Never discard and throw away until many days later - after you've had a chance to digest what you wrote, because there may be pieces of your writing that are good and you may want to build on those, and discard the rest.
