I was travelling through Algeria for my book, The Olive Tree, and I noticed many unkempt vineyards and learned that they were abandoned when the French colonials fled at the end of the Algerian War of Independence. When I returned to France those decaying villas and those beautiful lands began to haunt me and in my mind I created a French family who fled to the South of France and bought themselves a vineyard there overlooking the sea. This was the seed for THE FORGOTTEN SUMMER

Carol, Have you been watching the new series on tv of " All Creatures Great and Small"? I saw the older one that you were in, and loved it, I am also watching this new series. It is funny how time does make a difference, the older series being in the 1970s and therefore closer in time to the 1930s when the story is set, does seem more realistic. But the modern one has better cinematography.

Do you still act? We actually fell in love with you as Helen and were so dismayed when you were replaced. It just wasn't the same. I've only recently become acquainted with you as an author and love your writing. I'll be looking for all your books and continue to follow you. My condolences on losing your mother ... that is never easy.
