Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Deirdre Quiery I get inspired by real life and real people as the seeds for new characters and plots. My second novel as a working title of Gurtha - as Gurtha is the key character. It is about him finding meaning in his life and learning what love is through a complex web of relationships within the ex-pat community in Mallorca and his relationship with his father who has dementia. I drew on my own relationship with my father who had dementia 10 years before he died. My understanding of what love is totally changed during this time. I have lived in Mallorca for 14 years and it is for me a magical island - with wonderful natural beauty. I like to write about my relationship with Nature within a plot which of course includes murders and characters being transformed!
