Goodreads asked Johnno Payne:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Johnno Payne This was a book of stories, mostly about things that happened in my life.

Most of the stuff you see here are like ideas that came to me in twilight. When I'm lying there waiting to fall asleep my mind races round and round like a zillion miles an hour and something jumps out and I catch it. I text myself so I don't forget it.

In the morning I will start writing it, sometimes I finish it sometimes I take it with me. But usually it gets written pretty fast, while it's fresh, before I have time to complicate it up.

That's the danger zone, when you have to start really thinking about it. When I do that it I lose the fresh, it turns stale, becomes hard to find the words. I try to force it, make it work, and when I do that I write crap. For me it's either natural or it's crap.
