Goodreads asked Jason McGathey:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Jason McGathey Different approaches work for different writers, obviously, but the main thing is to always keep your focus on your primary project, even if it's just a paragraph or a sentence a day. This moves the chains forward, so to speak, so that on a day where you're finally feeling more inspired or have more time, you're not still stuck in the same place. Plus I find just doing something, anything, for the project at hand tends to generate more ideas on its own, so in a sense this is doubly productive. It's also good to keep a notebook handy or even a sort of "junk box" Word file you can flip over to and jot random thoughts in.
