Goodreads asked Julie Krantz:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Julie Krantz My most recent book . . .? Okay, that’s easy. It’s called Blueberry Moon and it’s based on a poem I wrote a few years ago for the SCBWI National Bulletin. The poem was called “Bedtime Story” and was about a child asking to hear a story before bedtime to help “his dreams . . . set sail.” In reading over that poem, I decided to take a couple of the lines I liked best and see if I could turn them into a story, only the story I had in mind wasn’t a bedtime story. It was, on the other hand, a story about a child who is feeling blue and what she can do about it. Maybe I wanted to write this story because I was feeling blue at the time. I can’t remember. In any case, I love it. It’s lyrical and short and rounds itself out nicely, and will, in fact, be a great story for parents to share with children at bedtime!
