Vivian Kirkfield asked Julie Hedlund:

How do you schedule your day so that there is time for family, home responsibilities (cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc.), social media (12x12 and your own personal reading and commenting, career management (school visits, book events, etc.) and still have time to write? Or perhaps you never sleep? :)

Julie Hedlund Hi Vivian,

This is a great question, and the answer is that I don't plan for balance day by day. Instead, I aim for balance in a week or a month. Some days my family and home may require more of my time than anything else. When I'm in a creative "spurt," I ignore some of my other career responsibilities and write as much as I can while the muse is with me. Some days I don't write at all because I have to attend to the business side of things. So instead of killing myself trying to balance each day, I just try to make sure everything gets my attention over a span of time. I've tried imposing more rigid schedules and routines on myself, but it never works. I guess I just don't have the kind of personality that lends itself to routine. :-)

I hope this response answers your question. Thank you for asking!
