No - the book does reference some of the characters from what I assume are earlier books in the series, but the main plot is not dependent upon their stories. If you're planning to read the earlier books and don't want to know that the main characters end up together (as they invariably do...) then perhaps read them first so those plots are "spoiled" for you.
