How prominent are Howl and Sophie in this book? I thought the second book was great, but honestly, I missed Sophie and Howl a lot at the start of the book and when I think about it, I feel the first book still had better characters and stuff. So do they appear at all? and are they stuck with minor roles again?

They are not the main characters, but are in the story for a good portion of the book. Also, for most of the book Howl has disguised himself as a little kid (it's a long story) but the Howl/Sophie interactions were still really funny and entertaining. Not many romantic moments unfortunately, but this is still definitely worth the read. I enjoyed it more than Castle in the Air personally.
