Can someone please explain the ending to me? Was the whole story of Zeke the foretold story that Elswyth & Lousia's mother wrote? I also didn't understand the part where Zadock handed Zeke the letter. What was happening? Maybe I'm just slow but I would really like to understand. Please help!
This answer contains spoilers… (view spoiler)[Yeah, you're supposed to fold the paper from inside the envelope into a Mobius strip -- because the end is in the beginning and the beginning is in the end. Basically, all the fictional bracketing is recursive. We're told in The Sisters Gray that The City-State is a novel written by Elyswyth's mom, but we're told in The City-State that The Sisters Gray is a fictionalized text. The ending is just more of the same, which frankly I found disappointing. But it's a gorgeous book in many other respects... (hide spoiler)]
