I've been skimming through the reviews, and both good and bad seem to make sense. I could take a not-so-good starter if I knew that the series gets better (done it before), as I'm very interested in the magic sistem. So, to people who has already read the second book or more, does this series get better with time?

Spikeabell I think they get better. I'm on book 5 and would be on 6 if I didn't have to work. Easy to read and very fast paced (a little too fast). The magic system is innovative but rests within basic lore.
