I did not think so. I thought that in her grief she gave him what she wanted to give Tom, a beautiful meal.
I imagine this strong and resourceful young woman eventually moving ahead with her life. I wonder if she went back to teaching, sold the farm or kept it. I did not see any indications of pregnancy. I think we would all like to think she had a child coming, but that was not in the book.
