asked:
Is it me or is this book VERY slow starting? I like the premise of a Victorian heroine adventurer, but the imitation of the Victorian novel went as far as long descriptions of nothing happening. From about page 150 onwards I have enjoyed it, but most of what came before was tedious.

I'm also used to books that start the action on the first page, but with the setting in mind I found myself rather relaxed and appreciative of the pacing. Perhaps Marie plans to speed up the later books as less character exposition is needed.

Huh! I didn't find it slow at all.
Suzanne
Agreed. I enjoyed the first book more. I did finish this one, but it was more about politics than the dragons. I won't be continuing the series.
Tim Hicks
So slow that I bailed after about 150 pages.
Finnigan Pearce-Zuazua
yes. I quite like the combination of politics and action, but it does get tedious, since EVERY book starts like that.
Eglathren
I'm still reading it, but just like the previous book I'm finding the pace really good :)
