I really don't think you do. Magnus is Annabeth's cousin, so she might come into play, and if she does there might be a subtle hint to another book, but I don't think the author is going to spoil one of his other books, especially since it's a first person point of view.

I think it would make more sense if you read the Percy Jackson series first and the heroes of Olympus. Plus they are VERY GOOD so I suggest you read the others first :)
