I think it had to be awesome to read at the time of it's appearance,
but now you must realize it's full of plot holes, inconsistencies, and
the story defies the laws of physics, geology, and biology with huge exaggerations. If somehow you could read it before you learn anything about this world in elementary school, these facts won't bother you as much :) Otherwise, it's kind of a long bedtime story.
