It's the third in a longer series. There is going to be one set of 5, then a break, then another set of 5. They're the same series, but I believe that the back 5 will pick up 15 years after the end of the first 5, which will be a complete story arc (even if there is a lot left unresolved).
Also, I don't know if you're aware, but many of Sanderson's other books take place in the same universe. Wit is in almost all of them (though he usually goes by Hoid). Eventually, all of his series will come together in one massive story. The later Mistborn books are going to be key to this.
