It's like AA, keep coming back. At one point, it will all come together for you, even if you're not sure how.

Manuela, You posted this question two years ago. I'm in the same place as you were wondering if it's worth my time to struggle through this book. Did you make it through? Was it worth it?

I hope that you persisted with it Manuela...I'm currently 375 pages in (plus all footnotes), and that's only due to a lack of time and the proper environment in which to dedicate my full concentration to it.
Think of it as savouring the journey rather than looking at where the destination is going to be. The quality of the writing, the characterisation, the humour, the knowledge acquired...this is a pleasure to read.

It gives short summaries of each chapter. It will be helpful to catch up on the first 350 pages and give a refresher on what you missed. Probably only take an hour and gives great insight into information that would only be available after a re-reading.

That' really no surprise because I would argue the challenge of this book is that there isn't really a plot. It's entirely all about the characters and what they start out with and where they end up. I ate it in tiny chunks at lunch until I got to about 200 pages left then needed to binge it.

See my question--I couldn't agree with you more, dude!!
