Goodreads asked Dennis Gibb:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Dennis Gibb I found that when I got clogged up and couldn't write that if I sat down and just wrote something about an issue that affected me that day or that moment eventually I worked out of the slump.

I was a pilot at one time and sometimes in flying an emergency will occur and you have to do the exact opposite of what your senses tell you to do, like adding power as the aircraft stalls, or increasing the rate of descent when in a spin. I think the same is true of writing. Getting blocked is miserable and the natural move is to stop- maybe the correct thing is to continue but in a slightly different direction.
