Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Ellen Malphrus I was camping on an uninhabited island, and in the night I heard a sublime sound that was like the whisper of forever. It turned out to be a sleeping dolphin floating down the river, ever-so-placidly exhaling.
When we looked at one another, that dolphin and I, a fascination was triggered in me that lies at the heart of "Untying the Moon." There is violence in the novel that is in direct counterpoint, but that serenity – a desire for it anyway – underlies everything.
