Goodreads asked Robert Fitzpatrick:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Robert Fitzpatrick House 49 came as a combination of ideas. Originally, I wanted to write a book about a totem that a family bought from a thrift store and that totem transformed whichever room of the house it was in into a horror show. Blood in a chocolate syrup bottle, piranhas in the bath tub, knife-edged ceiling fan blades, and so on.

And I also wanted to write a book that would connect with a large variety of readers, where they would each interpret it slightly differently based on the character they identified most with.

So, HOUSE 49 was born from those two ideas. A twisting, writhing, screaming birth that came forth as a rather intense novel.
