Goodreads asked Jay Clarke:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Jay Clarke Here I'll be repeating part of my preface, but it came about from being a fairly new supply teacher and being asked to teach a class of 12-13 year-old boys on the subject of bullying. The subject was 'PSHE', which I'd never heard of at the time. At a loss to know even where to start, I came up with the idea of writing a poem, which two of the boys could read out in class. The lesson was by far the easiest (especially with boys of this age) and the most rewarding I'd ever given; the boys loving every minute of it, so I was confident I'd come up with an idea that might work with other children and subjects. All the other poems just followed on from there.
