In your Welsh trilogy the "word" ap is used and sometimes ab is used to show paternity e.g. Llewelyn ap Ioworth. Which is correct?
Sharon Kay Penman
Both are correct, Cheryl. Ap or ab means "son of" in Welsh. Ap is used before names that begin with a consonant like Llywelyn, and ab is the proper usage before names that begin with a vowel like Iorwerth.
