Goodreads asked Townsend Walker:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Townsend Walker Two things went into "La Ronde." I saw the Max Ophuls 1952 movie of the same name and liked the structure where each scene has two characters and one of the characters moves to the next scene to be joined by a new character. For example, scene one in the movie is a prostitute (Simone Signoret) and a soldier; scene two is the soldier and his girl friend. The second element is the child's game of telephone where information becomes distorted as it is passed from person to person.
