Goodreads asked L.M. Elliott:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

L.M. Elliott I have been wanting to write about Ginvera de' Benci ever since my daughter (then 7 or 8-years-old) came to me holding a children's book on Leonardo da Vinci, and announced that the only work of his in all of the Americas was in Washington DC, (where we live). She wanted to see it that day. When your child is that emphatic about wanting to see something that marvelous, you drop everything and go! I was totally captivated by Ginevra's gaze, quiet dignity, and the luminous quality of Leonardo's painting. I wanted to know more about her. And the more I read and researched, the more I knew she deserved her story to be written.
